We woke up to our first properly warm sunny day without a cloud in the sky. We went first thing to the train station and managed to book the tickets for our Sleeper to Rome. It was 41 Franks each. We then bought food for the next few days and went up the cable car to a nearby lake. The lake itself it surrounded by huge mountains covered with ice and snow. With melt water cascading down huge waterfalls into the lake. We had wanted to hire a rowing boat and row across it, but it was so busy that they were all taken so we just walked to one side of the lake. It was a nice warm day so we decided to have a swim in the turquoise water. To our surprise it wasn’t too cold so we swam quite a bit. Although below the first meter of water it was cold so we made sure we kept swimming on the surface. After our swim we walked around the lake to see the waterfalls. The path took us over cliffs which overhung the lake. At one section we had to side shuffle single file and hold on to rope. We got to a nice beach on the other side and cooked our dinner on a large boulder. The waterfalls on the other side were very impressive and we were going to stand underneath them, but as we tried we slipped on some of the rocks and I cut my feet. But we did manage to get very close and the water was much colder than the lake. Next to the waterfall it was very windy with lots of water spray hitting us. We then went back down to Kandersteg were we went online to book our hostel in Rome. However there wasn’t wifi so we had to use a desktop in a shop so we couldn’t upload anything for the blog and it was expensive. We then had a nice meal at a local restaurant and went back to our campsite.
