Day 9
We set off in the morning for our train and successfully caught the one to Harburg. Where we caught an Inter City, train to Duisburg. Although not long after getting on the train the reservation signs on all the seats turned off and then when they kept listing all the stops they never mentioned ours, so we got a little worried. Although in the end we did reach our stop and find our connecting train to Amsterdam. We only moved for about five minutes and then the train just stopped. They then announced that there was an accident and we would be there for a short time. An hour later it had become a “person” accident. With a helicopter landing next to the train. We were then told it would not be much longer. About half an hour passed and we were told that they would have to change drivers. So in the end we hadn’t moved for two hours. We then travelled until we reached the border where the conductor said it would take ten minutes to change from a German driver to a Dutch one. It was over half an hour until we finally moved again. But just before we got into Amsterdam we were told we had to get off a few stops early as the train had to go back to Germany. So we had to catch a slow train from then on. So in the end we got in after eight, instead of half five. We got to the youth hostel quite easily as we made sure we got good directions before we went. Once we had dropped our bags off we walked into the centre of town and had a look around. Just before we started to head back it torrential rain started and as it was a mile and a half walk back we were soaked to the skin. On our way back we got within a hundred meters of the hostel and then got lost. Luckily we managed to find our way after a little while. On the way back we also helped a lost French boy looking for the hostel.
