Wow! what a day! Friday we had our first day of vbs and Benite told us to plan on about 150 to 200 kids. when we arrived at the site there were more than 300 kids! The team got right to work setting up and off we went. we sang songs and did a skit and then we had 3 stations, one for face painting, one for games and one for snack and the kids seemed to enjoy it all. it was manageably chaotic at times because of the language barrier, but we did have some interpreters that helped as much as possible. stacy and her vbs crew did a great job organizing beforehand because if not for that the chaos would have been insurmountable. for the youth convention, they had preregistration for about 200 and as of last night had more than 400 in attendance. they come from all over haiti, sleep in the classrooms at the school and are fed one meal a day. it was a large endeavor trying to get them all fed lunch (the only meal), so the schedule was pushed back and we weren't able to do the sports time with them. we left early and had a some extra time back at the hotel to rest and refresh before returning for evening service. it was much needed. various team members are having stomach issues, headaches and fever issues, lots of bug bites and sunburns. but we press on! the youth convention service was good and following a brief time of team prayer the team retreated to bed. the fullest day yet. as I write we are back on the tap taps heading to the compound for another day just like Friday. we have a challenge today though because we are very late. the tap tap driver thought he was supposed to pick us up at 10. we were supposed to leave at 8:30. when they got there, one had a flat tire that needed to be replaced. we finally got moving and the driver stopped for a coke and then some gas. kind of frustrating when we're already so late! just a challenge we will overcome. pray today please for our team to stay focused, dig deep and finish strong because the variables are challenging. tired, hot, some sick, etc. until next time.
