More pictures from Ngepi Camp and Mahango Game Preserve
One of the game drives we took into the Mahango Game Preserve was with our neighbors in the camp, Sig and May. He is an avid birder so was a great person to go with. It is always nice to go with people that have similar interests and do not mind stopping to look at the birds.
We were rewarded for our efforts during this trip when we got to see the wattled cranes one more time out on the beginning of the delta area. This was our third time to see them and one of the last of the cranes he needed for his list.
We took the 4x4 track the entire way. We did not see much wildlife, but did get to see some birds. The topography is quite interesting in this section; it goes through some hilly sections and is quite close to the Botswana border at times.
We stopped at the picnic area and checked out the termite mounds. Until you get up close, it is hard to imagine how tall and well contructed they are. We also found some footprints of where an elephant had walked during the rainy season. Each one of us stood in on of the footprints which made you realize just how massive these animals can be!
Sig and May had wanted to see the elephants and we would finally rewarded when we went down to the edge of the delta and there were two elephants for us to observe. ================================
