I am sure everyone is devasted to learn that this is the final time Mike and I will be writing in our travel blog from good old Central America. Hopefully it´s a good one.
We last left off in Masaya, a few km´s south of Managua, after coming back from Costa Rica.
Mike says: welp, were back at the same hostel we spent our first night in. we rounded out this full circle trip by deciding against the trip north to Esteli, deciding we didnt have enough time to see everything up there and make it worth the travel time. so we instead went west of managua to pochomil, a beach town with excellent waves, scorching sun, and other beach fare. after one night in a room with no electricity, no running water, and barking dogs/talking people at all hours of the morning, we went about 50 m up the beach to a much nicer place. kerry and i almost got hustled at billiards by an 11 year old kid, she collected many shells for a wind chime or lamp she plans on making, and we just enjoyed being in the water, lounging in hammocks, and recalling what a glorious trip its been. we just got done seeing harry potter in spanish subtitles (ill let kerry give the full rundown on this, naturally), and plan to spend tomorrow dallying around town and stuff. excited to be back home, talk to you then.
Kerry says: We arrived in Managua on Monday, trying to figure out what to do. We decided, as Mike says, to go to the beach for our last few days, and took a chicken bus to do so. We ended up jumping onto a moving bus that was just leaving the station, then running/being thrown to the back where we proceeded to have to stand AND hold on to our bags for the 2.5 hours it took to drive 65 k. Needless to say, it was uncomfortable, but it makes me appreciate public transportation in the US.
At the beach, we were almost the only ones, and definitely the only white people (our hotel room/dinner tab was literally written under ¨Gringo¨). After a sleepless night the first time, we moved to a much nicer hotel with a great view, nice little kids who beat me at pool, and delicious food. We took the bus back to Managua, and got there just in time to see Harry Potter! This, of course, was great.
Tomorrow we will basically be biding time until we head to the airport for our 1 am flight Thursday pm/Friday am. Mike and I are both sad to be ending our trip because there is so much yet to do, but we are excited to be home among convenience, friends, and family.
