Day 4 - Temezcal Day

This was the best day yet! I have been so excited about the Temezcal!

I spoke with Joel and Josefina about it and it made me a little nervous, but I was excited. I have never hallucinated without "assistance" before! I had an outdoor beachside massage scheduled just before the Temezcal. It was done with healing crystals and aromatherapy oils. Talk about amazing!

I took a xanax and had one of those yummy welcome drinks before the massage so by the time the Temezcal came around I was not nervous at all. I was rather relaxed as you can imagine!

The lady Shaman that leads the ritual met us outside the Temezcal and explained the procedure and what to expect. It involves sitting on palm leaves inside this terracotta hut with hot lava rocks inside. The Shaman pours hot water over the hot lava rocks to create the steam that is supposed to be the purifying effect. Before we enter we do some chanting to salute & honor mother earth, the sun, the moon & the water (i think, don't quote me on that, that's the way I remember it). So we get inside and she shuts the door. It's me, the Shaman and a couple on their honeymoon. I didn't hallucinate but it did get a little cooky. She pours water on the rocks then asks us what we see...you know kinda like when you see shapes in the clouds etc...you can see shapes in the hot lava rocks. The couple was seeing things like smiley faces, hearts, cutesy lovey dovey stuff. First time around I saw several crosses. Nothing else, just crosses of different sizes and shapes. She asked me what this meant to me and I told her I felt like it represented my current struggle with science and religion and the way my family feels about all that. Made sense to me! We went around again and the couple saw more cutesy stuff. I saw something....glaring at me, but I didn't have the guts to admit it so I passed.... went around again..same story with the couple (insert puke here)...then it came back to me... Well... I did see something, it was VERY obvious to me and VERY big in the rocks... It was so inappropriate but it was there, I saw it and I had to know what it meant.....so I said it... I saw a Vagina....yes a Vagina! It was big, and pink, and perfectly shaped like a vagina! I did not mean for this to be sexual, but damnit that's what I saw. The Shaman said that it gave her chillbumps...huh??? She said that the whole reason for the Temezcal was to connect with Mother Earth and connect to her guidance. She proceeds to say that the earth and water are what created us and made reference to the theory that man evolved from fish! WTF?? This is getting to be a little surreal. It's like this trip and this book have some kind of connection that I am supposed to understand but I don't yet!

Then we did this visual thing where we closed our eyes and pictured ourselves walking down a path in the woods and at some point down that path we turn in to an animal..whatever animal first comes to mind.. Mine was a Horse.. She said this is our power animal and that mine was strong and I should trust my instincts and make my own decions and not be influenced by those around me. After we got out she made reference to this again in regards to my quesions about the religios beliefs that my family pushes on me.

This was a little much for me to take in... I wasn't sure if I did hallucinate from the spiritual forces of the Temezcal or if it was the Xanax and those yummy welcome drinks!

Tonight I ordered room service and stayed in the room... There was a lot on my mind!!!
