Started out Great!!! Got a parking lot right in the front row when arriving at the airport! I was right on time. Thinking to myself.. YES!! This is going to be a great trip!

Since I was already in "check out" mode and worked in full on New Years Eve formal attire including 4 inch heals the night before I wore my favorite sweat pants, flip flops,a long sleeved tie dyed t-shirt and of course, no make up and wet hair. Ah... In my mind I was already in Mexico even though it was still dark outside and it was 32 degrees! I only slept about 2 hours and skipped the coffee because I wanted to go ahead an start my "body-cleanse" vacation. I imagine I looked like a typical hungover hippy even though I didn't even drink the night before. C'mon it's 5:30am for Christ sake.

The first people I run in to are two folks I used to run around with "back in the day". He is now an Dr and she slipped right in to the role of the condecending Dr's wife. I felt like a turltle that could not get it's head in it's shell!!! I wanted to be invisible but couldn't, wanted to hide or duck but couldn't. There was no way to avoid it! They could not even hide the looks on there face when the saw me stroll in this way. Even at 5:30am they were dressed to the 9's and she had full hair and makeup done to a T. Her tall skinny blonde Dr. husband was just there to say goodbye. She and her tall, skinny, blonde, model daughter were on the same flight with me. (and I thought my luck was going well!) Wouldn't you guess, they were taking her to a beauty pageant in NY. I got so anxious and paranoid I went to the bathroom and popped a Xanax. So much for starting the body cleanse... I shoulda had the coffee!!!

Funny how people change... we used to be tight and run in the same circle. I have not changed a bit and they seem like complete aliens to me now! Very awkward! Thank goodness it was a short flight to our connection and we went our seperate ways. During the flight I buried my head in a book called Maya that I have been waiting to read. It's been on my bookshelf for over a year and I just have not found the time. I brought 3 books and hope to read them all. I usually can go thru 1 in a day or so when I'm on vaca. I picked this 1 to read 1st since it was called Maya and I was heading to Riviera Maya so it seemed appropriate. I started reading the first chapter and in the story it was Jan 1. Ironic, the actual date I was reading it was Jan 1. Things that make ya say hmmmm... I tried to wish them well with the pageant as they left the plane but they seemed to not hear me even though they were only steps away from me. They appeared to be in a BIG hurry so either they were late for their plane or the mom was afraid the hippie chick would scare her daughter or tell her a story about her hoity-toity mom from "back in the day". I got a smile on my face as they walked away...evil, I know, but it made me smile to think that the mom USED to be skinny & blonde....now she's just blonde if you catch my drift!!!!

A little while later I realized that the tall skinny blonde Dr. is Mom's Chiropractor. Since I was taking this trip solo I had to fib to my mom and tell her I was going with girlfriends. Then the worry set in...did I mention I was going alone, will he tell her next time he sees her that no girlfriends were with me at the airport... I completely digressed to a 14 year old girl in fear of getting busted sneaking out of the house after curfew!!!! (yes...did that too!!!)

Even at 41 years old I have to fib to keep her from stroking out with worry or putting me on the prayer chain at Church because she thinks I'm CRAZY! I just love that....Ladies in there requesting prayer for cancer patients, recent widows, life & death important things and the worst thing my mom can come up with is pray that her daughter finds a husband to take care of her...She's got it tough I tell ya!! A whole lot to complain about. I am 41, Single, No desire for Children and my Passport & bags are packed for an impromtu trip at any given moment. She just can't wrap her brain around the fact that I'm ok and I LOVE my life just the way it is... I live it to the fullest!!!

Ok, I digress... The flights were on time and perfect! There was a super hottie sitting in the row next to me so that I had a full few the whole flight. When there was not a view outside the window I had a great one inside too! Little did I know this would be the last good looking guy I see again for the remainder of the trip.

Arrived in Cancun right on schedule. I have been to Mexico before, but only by boat or directly in to Cozumel, never to the Super Over Americanized Cancun. When I arrived at the airport I thought I was in friggin Orlando. Bubba Gump Shrimp, Margaritaville, Harley Davidson Clothing Store, Chanel, Chloe etc... WTF??? Where is the tropical paradise?

My driver from the resort was waiting for me at baggage claim. He even had a sign with my name on it...I felt special! He was super nice and very helpful with things to do. I told him I had no intention of leaving the resort unless it was by boat for snorkelling etc. He said I was going to the right place then because Cieba del Mar has everything you need all in one spot. Spa, Casual Dining, Fine Dining, Pool, Cabanas, Yoga, Scuba, Snorkeling, Bar, Swim up Bar, Beach Food/Bev Service etc...He expressed several times that he was concerned about me being alone. I travel alone all the time and I blew off his concern as curiosity instead. I didn't uderstand until a few mintues later when we started to turn down the dirt road to the resort and passed several military looking hummer like vehicles with 6 guys on top of each in Camo with MACHINE GUNS... that's when the driver started to elaborate about the escalating drug wars and cops/politicians involvement etc. He assured me that if I stayed in the resort that it was very well protected and guarded. That was good enough warning for me!

I arrived and finally found my tropical paradise. This place is AMAZING from top to bottom. The design/decor is authentic and beautiful. Open air lobby with bar. Beautiful flowers and lush greenery everywhere and a rock pond in the middle of the courtyard. Had the most friendly front deck staff I have ever encountered. Ana met me at the front door. Funny, she has the same name as the main character I'm reading about in the book I started on the plane. 2nd Hmmmm for the day. Ana gave me very personal attention, answered all the questions I had and was very welcoming. I asked if I should be concerned about being alone and she put my fears to rest and immediately served me one of their signature "welcome drinks".

The first thing I did was enjoy the room and take pictures of it I was so impressed! My favorite part was the hammock on the balcony! Perfect view of the pool & the beach. HEAVEN! Beautiful fruit basket in the room so I grabbed an apple and went to the beach to catch the sunset and had another "welcome" drink...I think it was champagne and some kind of red fruit punch...whatever it was I was feeling very nice and welcome! Again I thought to myslef...I'll start the body cleansing tomorrow....

Next stop the SPA. I was ready for my Mayan spa experience. Healing, Cleansing, Detox etc....Joel was my spa specialist and he did the most amazing things to my feet I can't even describe it! Closing my eyes and imagining him to be the hottie from the plane made it even better. Joel has amazing talent. He has been working and learning the spa biz for over 20 years. He is very talented and highly educated in mayan therapies, herbal/flower therapy & massage treatments. If he also looked like the hottie on the plane I'd probably still be there on Joel's massage table right now maxing out every CC card I have!

I have spa visits planned every day the whole trip. I booked them all in advance on line. I highly recommend this due to the variety of services they offer. In order to get the exact treatments you want book in advance. I do this 'cause I'm a bit of a control freak, I'm not afraid to admit it. I didn't want to get there and not be able to get all the treatments I wanted. I picked this resort specifically because the spa has a traditional mayan Temezcal. It's a Mayan steambath ritual that is supposed to be very spiritually uplifting and I heard that it can sometimes enduce halucinations... you KNOW that peaked my interest!!!

After my most relaxing foot experience I got dressed and went to dinner. Now keep in mind this is the most tranquil place I have ever been in my life thus far. Calm, quiet, ZEN!!! So, I get to dinner and there is 1 table open on the deck.. perfect...UNTIL I get seated and I am next to a table of french people-3 ladies, 3 men & 2 little girls. My first thought was "kids, in this place?? I thought it was adults only". The kids were ok. After running themselves silly in circles around the table they ended up falling asleep in their chairs. Not so much the men...the more wine they drank the louder they got...the louder they got the more F-Bombs they dropped. I have dated French men before and this is very common for them and I am not offended by it at all since I have the same bad habit but there is a time and a place. Not only totally inappropriate for the surroundings, but in front of the F-ing kids....,, btw...f-ing kids at a f-ing spa????
The food was great, the service was great as well as the view but I cut it short and went to bed. It had been a long day!

Stay tuned for day 2....
