An Old City Called Augsburg

Last Saturday I went to work from 12pm to 6pm. It was pretty chill, and I think the most kids we had was four or five. I played K2 9 for a while...which is a really fun NBA game. The teen I was playing with was very good at the game, and so he was taking it easy on me. But I felt like I was actually good at the game, even though it was only my third time playing. I really want to get good this summer, and give him and another teen a run for their money. But I do not know if I have the skills to make it happen. When he left we only had one kid, and another Camp A was there playing games with him so I watched a movie for awhile. But that ended about half way through when more kids came. The rest of my day was spent hanging out with them, and the CYPA staff. It went by really quick, and I was off at 6. When I got home Carey, Kari, Shannon, and I played hands and feet. It was really fun, and I am glad that the two newbies are really in to it. :) We stayed up late and I went to bed right after so I could be fresh for Sunday.

On Sunday, I went on was to a small town called Augsburg, Germany. I could only afford to go on a day trip, since I worked on Saturday, and this town is pretty historic. It was founded in 15AD by Augustus of the Roman Empire. Of course, being a huge fan of history, this was a huge draw. So I was really excited to see this city, and it was not going to be that far from Stuttgart, which means no long train rides where I sleep much more than humanly necessary. I was stoked! I even got Carey, and Kari to come with me. :) So we leave Sunday morning, and get to the train station about an hour before we are supposed to leave. Instead of just sitting around for an hour, we leave the sation and go in search of gelato (which is the European version of ice cream.) Our search is pretty fruitless, as everything is closed on Sunday's--becuase Germany has a country wide "family day." So we are wandering around, when this guy walks by us, looks at me, and whistles. Of course I turn around to make sure the unwanted attention was to me, and got a huge nod and a smile. I couldn't help but laugh at how random and hilarous (and of course it made me feel good about myself.) After a lot of laughter our search continues, we find the ice cream, and make it back to the train station in time for our departure.

We arrived in the early afternoon to this pretty town, and we all decide we are hungry. So after a lot more wandering, we find this small resturant where the menus are in German. Of course none of us know much German past please and thank you so we spend twenty frusterating minutes trying to figure out what everything is. Kari ends up coping out and getting spaggetti while Carey and I just pick random things off the menu. When our food comes Carey gets this yummy looking platter of meat, potatoes, and a few other things. I get bread, this really thin salty meat that is almost impossible to cut, and some lettuce. I was done after one bite. But Carey was really nice and let me have some of his meal. As we were eating this little German boy behind us starts giggeling and soon we are playing a game where he ducks if I look at him. It was very cute. Then he left, and uttered an adorable "choose"--which is goodbye in German--and waved at me. It was a fun way to kill time while Kari and Carey finished eating. We left soon after them, and started to wander around the city.

I was very pretty, we went into this old church and explored for awhile. I even lit a candle at the alter...something I have always wanted to do. We left and just walked around for a few hours taking pictures and exploring the town. Nothing two exciting. It was very beautiful, but there wasn't much to do. After we got bored we hopped back onto a train and came home.

On Monday, I had the day off becuase of workin on Saturday. It was a great day to just chill around the apartment, and do some laundry. Kind of mundane, but it was a needed day of rest after a hectic first week. I got some work done...though I confess I didn't have much to do in the first place. :0 But it definatly was a great way to end the weekend.
