Since I've Been Gone

The last two weeks here in Stuttgart have been a blur. The first week pretty much consisted of prepairing for camp, sitting through impossibly endles lectuers, dealing with staff issues (which are now happily resolved), and just being nervous as a first year director. The week ended with me chaperoning a middle school dance with the other Camp A staff. It was really fun to watch the dance from an adult perspective, and reminice about my own awkward years on the dance floor. It was a hoot to be there, and of course everyone in Camp A danced the night away. Saturday the Camp A group made a trip to downtown Stuttgart. We walked around the city all day, ate doners and gelato, and laid around in this beautiful park. Then we went out to the Beir Garden, and just hung out untill everyone was tired. What a week. The second week has been equally hecitc. I have forgotten how much energy it takes to be around kids all day, and have ended most of this week utterly exaughsted. But I love my job, and I wouldn't have it any other way. We spend the mornings hanging out with the middle schoolers, taking about boys, listening to music, and attempting to get them do some of our planned activites. Though most of it has failed so far, was are making strides each day. And I know that the kids really like us. Everyone in our morning group has a nickname and mine is Ms. Blondie. Supposidly becuase of my hair, but I told all the kids it was becuas I was awsome like the singer. Not that they know anything about her...but it made me feel better. We all joke around a lot, and I love giving them all a hard time which is always amusing. They are all funny in an indivdual way, and it is fun to listen to them and just hang out with them. In the afternoons I usually hang out at the front desk and answer the phone. But I try and steal away to the main room as much as I can to play Guitar Hero, K29, Settlers of Catan, and Risk. And on my hour break I am always at Subway drinking a soda and reading my book The Deer Park by Norman Mailer. I am having a great time, and I hope it remains this fantasitc for the rest of the summer!
