Kerry and Mike here, updating this time from, as Mike says, the farthest south he has ever been.
Kerry says: We walked to the bus station and spent a while putzing around there yesterday, before taking a 4 hour bus ride to our current location--Manuel Antonio, a small touristy town in the central Pacific region of Costa Rica, just by a great national park.
We arrived to our hostel and discovered that for once, a hostel was as advertised on the Internet. We ran into some friends we had made in Monteverde, and immediately sat down with them and a few others to have good conversation surrounded by a great view. The hostel overlooks the Pacific Ocean, and you can see the water swimming beneath the clouds in the most serene manner. It is gorgeous to behold.
Mike and I oh-so-romantically watched the sunset with the rest of the hostel, and it is, I am sad to say, indescribable. The way the colors changed over the water was unlike anything I have everseen before. Then we went out to eat and ate some delicious food, came back, and relaxed.
We woke up this morning to go to the national park. Let us have Mike explain about our time in this place.
Mike says: the park was much more satisfying in the wildlife department than santa elena reserve. 10 minutes into the hike, we came across a sloth that was hanging about 8 feet over the trail. it was wild to see it move its head so slowly. other animal sights include capuchin monkeys, from more of a distance, land and sand crabs, big lizards, racoons, deer, caoti, a crocodile, turtle, and a multitude of other sloths. we broke up our hike with a frolick on the beach inside the reserve, which was very refreshing and also included sea slugs, insects, little fish, etc. in the rocks. now, after getting food from the grocery store, well figure out what to do from here, after doing a brain busting crossword puzzle. theyve been pretty intense.
next time well probably be back in nicaragua, talk to you then.
