Kerry and Mike are here, updating for the last time from Monteverde.

Mike says: The zip line canopy tour yesterday was tons of fun. We went extra fast, free fell down a rappel line, did a crazy tarzan swing, and did our last zip line, dubbed the superman, face first, hooked in on our back and bum. i wish i could do it every day. after this adrenaline rush, we walked around town, visited a co op, and went on a small hike to a hollowed out tree that we climbed up. its hard to describe, but the pictures will help. we called it an early night, and got up at 530 today to go to one of the protected cloud forest reserves, Santa Elena. we walked in the preserve for about 3 hours, seeing lots of cool trees and sights, but sadly, not much of the teeming wildlife hidden in this place. it was a very misty and removed place to just walk around and enjoy the sounds. now, were making some food before our bus to san jose. kerry is uncontrollably excited to eat mcdonalds there, and add CR to her list of countries where shes enjoyed this fine eatery. eric, kerry got us a set of dominoes for our place, fyi. and im getting souvenirs so dont buy stuff for yourselves in the next 2 weeks, just in case they duplicate. thanks.

Kerry says: Mike exclaimed that the above paragraph was the longest he's ever written, and it's true! We have accomplished a lot over the past 24 hours.

The zip line was great, and not at all scary. It was rather beautiful to be able to fly through the canopy of the rainforest, many many feet above the ground. It was unlike any experience I've ever had, because it also gave great opportunities to look around as you zoomed. The area here is gorgeous; we are at such a high elevation that we are literally at or above cloud level.

In fact, when Mike says that we took a walk about town (which actually means we walked at least 4k uphill in the rain!) we were literally walking through the clouds. It was very misty, and it almost seemed like fog, except that sometimes you wouldn't even know you were in a cloud until you focused on something a bit away from you and realized it was blurry. Very cool.

We have also made a few more plans about where we're going and what we're doing--we're heading to San Jose for the next two days, after which we'll go down south to visit some national parks to hopefully see more of the wildlife, and then we'll spend a day at the beach before going back up to Managua.

It is hard to concentrate on what I'm writing, as Michael Jackson's funeral is on full blast and there are a few Costa Ricans discussing it (though of course I have no clue what they are saying). It is strange to feel so cut off from the world, often not hearing about major events, like his death or any of the deaths surrouninding his passing, or even the coup in Honduras, until days after they have happened. Sometimes I feel as if I'm missing out on major news items, but at other times it's nice to not have to hear the same news things anmd over; Mike and I have often comented that it is a liberating feeling not to check your phone every few minutes, just as it is nice to be able to check email or Facebook every hour.

Hope everything is well! Mike and I are both having a great time, and have even enjoyed a hot shower.
