Final Entry July 3 7 AM

It is Friday--- our final day before we go home tomorrow and leave this place. I feel sad to go back out into the real world but happy also to go home. Having the best coffee always fresh brewed right outside of our room is one thing I will miss (and hope that Steve will catch on to doing for me Ha ha). I will also miss the near 77 degree temperatures of most days. We won’t really miss the albatros wheelchair even though it turned out to be a God-send for getting us all around. It reminds me again of how often a situation that seems so awful can actually be just what you needed.

We have gone as many places as time would allow between appointments. Ian never really felt sick or much discomfort following the treatments. The worst was from me accidentally banging him into things while carrying him. He did not think we should spend much time hanging around this hotel so we have been going and going.

It has been thrilling to meet so many nice people and experience what we could here. Yesterday we discovered a great store that buys at fair trade prices from indigenous people. Intricate carving of nuts into various animals was really great as was their basketry and jewelry. (Don’t worry too much Steve.)

It has been great having Austin around. He has been so helpful and a good friend for Ian. He also assures me that his parents already know how amazing he is, that I don’t need to tell them. Having my sister here is another extra special treat. There are so many things to laugh about and hold secret confidences about.

We went to the famous Catholic cathedral in Cartago that houses a statue of the virgin. I had not expected to feel so deeply moved. So many people were there collecting holy water in bottles and pouring it all over themselves. Even as I write this I am moved by their deep faith and in how they have a means to reach out and be reached by God. I kneeled inside the church and was overcome by the sorrow of the past year and the healing that God was offering.

We will return home to exercise and awaken muscles that have been still for years. My hope is to see results from this God-given treatment… but there is no telling what that will mean or when. This is all such new therapy and nobody really knows. It is too bad that at this stage it is so expensive. Stem cell treatment may become available in the US but how soon we do not know.

And now we are off for our last day. It is time to get ready. I can’t wait to see what the courtyard breakfast buffet will have today. (Steve, just so you can prepare for our arrival, refer back to one of the pictures of the large variety. Hee hee)
