Journey to Adam's peak
Adam's peak is the third highest mountain in Sri Lanka. It's being worshiped by all major religious in SriLanka for thousands of years. The season for worship Adam's peak is a period of 6 month starting from December to May in the next year.
Though I had traveled all over the Island, I had never been there until this January. The credit should go to my friend Thusitha, whom you have met several times in my travel stories. Saman, our railway friend reserved tickets of the observation vegan of the "Udarata Menike" the upcountry train.Buddhika, Thusitha, Saman, Chamila & I were the participants.
At that day, it was nearly 4.00pm when we reached Hatton. Having a little rest, we visited to the famous two waterfalls located facing to each other at Thalawakele. One was St.Cleare. the other was Devon. Those waterfalls had got the name of the tea estates ,they belongs.
Having returned to Hatton, we had a little rest. A bus was sheduled to be 8.00pm. from there to Nallathanni.
Nallathanni means "Good water" in Tamil. It was nearly 10.30pm when the bus reached there. Having a short meal, we started our walking to the peak(it was said to be 5km).We bought some hats to prevent from mist.
There were many traditions on worshiping the Peak. every body must get clean having a bath in "Setha Gangula" ( Cooled river ). What a nice experience of having bath in a stream with the temperature less than 5 Centigrade, in midnight. Pilgrims who came there in first time known as "Kodu". For all the Kodu, bathing was a must.
