today i started my trip around taiwan. I was on the road for about 4 hours, winding around steep mountain roads, with many near death experiences.

It was an awesome day, i went on a 2 hour hike through taroko (named by the japs) and walked accross a massive suspention bridge, with really scary river rapids flowing below.

i then went to the famous water cave. Basically it is a cave underneath a giant river, the cave has cracks in it and as a result water flows through them and falls like rain creating a river below, walking through it was amazing, luckily a nice taiwanese tourist lent us her raincoat which made the experience a lot more comfortable.

After this we found our hotel in hulien, and hit the night markets, where we ate masisve amounts of dumplings and pork buns and had huge soy milk tea all for $2.50 a person!!

we then hoped back on our bikes and went to buy fireworks, we found them at a local store and headed to the beach. it was an experience, one of those things you can retell for a long time. The wizzed and banged, i thought i would blow my hands off but it was totally worth it.

thinking that was enough for one day i headed back to the hotel, but the owner of the hotel had other plans, he invited me down to drink pijiue (beer) with him and we sat and drank and talked about australia and how we ate our national emblem (kangaroos) which seemed to really disturbe them. Many taiwanese stare at me in the street, white people are a rare sighting so far i have seen three!!

okay all my love guys,

Alex
