Today was the big day-- The band had been invited to perform at the 1991 Montreux Jazz Festival. We took the short 15 mile drive southeast, along Lake Geneva, through Vevey, to the resort city of Montreux, at the eastern end of the lake.
The band was scheduled to perform at the Casino sometime during lunchtime, I seem to recall. This "casino", as is often the case in Europe, was not a place where you gamble. Our stage was located outside, with a great view overlooking the lake. I'm sorry I don't recall what music the band played. Maybe the band members can help me out-- Hint, hint !
The photos and captions pretty much speak for themselves. Tammy had a camcorder to video the performance. Captain Rob met up with some local relatives who came to hear the band. I don't recall enough to add much more. We were on our own after the performance. Some stayed for the afternoon and evening performances of other bands, both school and professional. Others returned to the Lausanne hostel and "did their own thing".
After our band played, I attended the performance of an excellent community college big band from Texas. In the evening, I and several others of us (Sylvia, Ian, Bill, Wendie, Tony, probably others-- but there were other bands to listen to, also) sat in awe at the incredible volume of the Blues Traveler band. We got great seats in front, but needed to fashion earplugs from napkins! We then returned to our lodgings in Lausanne.
