Cinque Terre (5 lands) proved to be the last travel experience of my four years in Rome. It could be considered one of the more beautiful places I’ve visited but unfortunately it wasn’t all pleasure as I made the trip in the midst of my exam schedule and had to study.
Fortunately the train ride to the ‘5 lands’ in Northwest Italy was 4 1/2 hours each way and I was able to then study well. In addition I took a complete day off of sight seeing to sit near God’s marvelous beach and prepare to be examined on God (theology).
The Cinque Terre are 5 tiny villages along the coast joined by beautifully scenic trails. The way the villages are situated and nested in the mountains joining the clear, blue waters of the sea attract visitors from all over. I spent three days there.
Jerry, of the Diocese of Scranton, joined me on the trip and we had a great time with memorable experiences, meeting Italians and tourists.
I have now permanently returned to the US. I write this journal as I prepare for my priestly ordination (July 11th, 2009) and subsequent assignment in the Diocese of Little Rock. I am very thankful for the wonderful experience of being formed in the Eternal City of Rome, the great opportunities of travel and the prayerful support of so many people from the diocese and beyond, from all over the world.
