Hello there. I'm sitting here in balmy Cairns watching the sugar cane train roll by. Have just been to an open air movie with the kids to see "Space Chimps" which was a big hit!
To back track...our final day in Atherton was spent touring around to some beautiful waterfalls in Malanda and a great dairy farm just out of Atherton. We saw the cows coming in for milking and enjoyed the fruits of their labour with an ice cream and cuppa!
Day 22 saw us pack up and head off to Lake Tinaroo (only a short drive from Atherton). Found a lovely campspot on the Lake and enjoyed a spot of fishing before lighting the campfire for our evening meal.
We had planned to stay there 2 nights but ended up moving to a different spot for night 2 because we found ourselves camped between two dreadful generators (not our idea of a serene campspot!) However, the next night was much more peaceful and still right on the Lake. More fishing, but the Barramundi continue to elude us! Met up with Grant's Dad and his wife for a few nights here too.
On day 24 (Sunday) we made our way to Cairns through Kuranda. The most majestic of scenery on the way, and the Cairns Coconut Caravan Park at the end of the trip. Countless palm trees, 4 swimming pools, 2 spas, mini golf, jumping pillows, playgrounds, tennis, recreation rooms, bike hire...need I go on? Needless to say the kids have found paradise! The inlaws looked after the kids for a few hours yesterday and Grant and I enjoyed a peacful lunch on the foreshore in Cairns. Followed of course by more swimming and playing with the kids!
Today we have had a fabulous day on the Kuranda Scenic Railway and the Skyrail...what an experience! Amazing rainforest and coastal views, and exploring the wonderful village of Kuranda too. Of course the boys have crashed into bed now after a huge day, topped off with the movie tonight! Another couple of days here will see us caravan park-ed out before we head bush again north for Cooktown.
Until then, hope you're well. xxx
