I am updating from this day since I already wrote out the entries on my computer but haven't had any wifi since Florence so I will fill in the Florence and Rome gap when I get internet at home. Hope you don't mind, if you do, sucks!
First day in Cinque Terre.
The train ride in from La Spezia we get a glimpse of the coast.
OH MY GOSH.
It's so beautiful. The man who owns the apartment we are staying in meets us at the train station along with some other people staying in other apartments. We take a steep walk 5 minutes up to a shortcut with stairs and lemon trees with fresh basil growing in the gardens. We head up some more steps to our apartment. Adorable. 40€ a night definitely got us our own 2 bedroom apartment with a full kitchen and large shower and clean bathroom. About 50 meters up another steep slope is the Mediterranean Sea about 300 feet above the sea. I can't even believe I made it back here. Mom and I haven't been here in 5 years, and here I am standing above the sea.
It's been a long day (kind of) and so Kris and I take a long nap (our speciality) and Ali went down to marina to take some pictures of the sunset over the water and marina at dusk. At the end of the pedestrian walk is the main stree Columbo where mom and I picked out pasta and sauce to cook at our pensione so long ago. I made dinner the our first night in Riomaggiore with some tortellini, gnocchi and some meat sauce with some local seasonings. It was pretty delicious if I do say so myself. We ended with an early night and decided to look for the beach in the morning.
