Lady Boys on the Prowl

2009-06-12, Ko Phangan, Thailand

Still in Koh Phangan, and it's actually really cool to see how the island empties out when there's no full moon party. Right now, it's pretty laid back, and for the land of excess, that's something I didn't expect.

Anyway, I met a Canadian guy named Jesse and we were giving my English friends language lessons. Pronunciation mostly. Why do they say to-mah-toes but still say potatoes normally. It makes no sense.

Last night, we were hanging out on the beach watching fire spinners, and I saw a lady boy. The most obvious looking man I've ever seen. Huge feet, wide shoulders, Adam's apple... I guess it wasn't obvious enough for the big shooter that left down the beach with him/her/it/ugh last night.

They wandered off hand in hand, looking like a couple in love, and for 20 solid minutes, I laughed and laughed. Unfortunately, when that guy wakes up today, he/she/it/ugh will probably have robbed him or revealed that he/she/it/ugh was a man.

Also fun to watch is the fire skipping rope. The best part about it is seeing how people manage to get through it safely once or twice, but tempt fate for another go. It never goes well, and last night, after some liquid courage and a cocky swagger this dude took it right in the mouth.

I don't think I have to explain that he ran off to the hospital, and tonight, may not think the fire rope is such a great idea. I'm just saying. Life on Koh Phangan is good, and hilarious.

Next entry: It's Pronounced Pee Pee
