You know, some people just have hearts for certain things. Some have a heart for the elderly, some have a heart for AIDS victims, some have a heart for those who are physically/mentally disabled, etc. I think there's a good chance I don't "have a heart" for a good majority of the toddlers here. Haha don't get me wrong, I LOVE those kids. This morning was just hysterically hectic. There are some adorable kids in there- soooo sweet......And then there are the ones who were probably more like me when I was that age, and love causing chaos :)

It prooooobably wouldn't have been too terrible, except I hadn't been with them during their morning activities before, and for some reason, I was the only one in there with 11 of them, and NO mama. Why there wasn't another staff member in there? Trust me- I wish I knew. So it was.... eventful! Had them getting dressed, using the toilets, changing diapers, snack time, reading time, play time, washing hands, putting on shoes, (and might I add these had to be on the CORRECT feet...)out in the yard, and finally lunch time. And after lunch time, coming back into our house and sitting directly in front of the fan, closing my eyes felt extremely appropriate :)

Hah so after the kids' lunch, the girls and I went into town and did some local shopping. I got a Nestle ICE CREAM CONE AT THE SUPERMARKET!!!! Heaven.

Oh man.... you guys don't even understand the food situation here. The grocery stores have very very little, and very little of that very little is actually safe to eat/looks like it's even food. So it was quite the treat to find an ice cream cone, since most of my meals here so far have consisted of either eggs, rice, pineapple, or food I've brought from the states.

When we were done looking around the shops, my afternoon shift was at Akiba, a shop in town which part of it's proceeds go to Amani. And right now there is a salon above it, run by the orphanage director's sister-in-law.

So anyway, long story short, SOMEHOW I got convinced by the other girls to get my eyebrows "threaded". Has anyone ever even HEARD of that!? I hadn't until this week. And don't even ask me to explain it.... all I know is that it's an Indian originated way of manicuring eyebrows, using a piece of string. Yeah. Yeah, I'll just let you all think about that and try to figure it out yourselves, because that's really all I saw until I had to close my eyes and they started watering haha.

But anyway, it was a fun experience. "Linds, what did you do while in Africa? Oh, I got pampered at a salon." :D Oh boy.

Well now it's time to put together some dinner, so I'm gonna go.

Sleeping here's been pretty hard, I'm not exactly sure why, but we have those 2inch foam bunk bed mattresses (you know, the ones on the bunk beds at crummy summer camps?), dogs bark a majority of the night, the girl that sleeps across from me snores awesomely like a 50 year old man- but really- but I think the main thing is that I'm just not in a familliar place, ya know? So I'm looking forward to a couple of Nyquills tonight so I can get to bed at a decent time. PTL for Nyquill. But honestly, when it comes down to it, once you wake up and hear the kids playing outside, God energizes in ways you can't imagein. Because he sure knows we all need it here.

Thanks for the prayers, and I hope they won't stop!

Love,

Linds

P.S.

By the way, I can see/am getting all the emails you all have sent from here and the guestbook comments. Thanks for the sweet notes.
