Muli Mutya!
Well today wasn't too much of an exciting day, which honestly is probably going to be like most of the days of the week, but regardless it was a great day in East Africa. Started the day off with a little skype action to mom and dad at 6:30am here, 10:30 at home--- awesome--- and then had some breakfast and headed down to Baby B to take care of the best (in my opinion) kids in the orphanage. After about an hour of playing with the babies, a mama walked into the room and handed me this tiny, adorable, but terrified and bawling child. He and his brother are the newest additions to Amani. His brother is older, so he went with baby C, but for some reason the mamas thought that this baby was old enough to be with the babies that are walking- which is a huuuuuuge error. In Baby B, the kids are all walking except 2, and have teeth so they can eat solid food. This boy- Bonedict- is probably about 20 inches long, with no teeth, and can barely sit up. When I went and got his story from Siouxanne the director, she said that it was probably around 6 or 7 months old and the boys' father dropped them off at the hospital because their mother is in jail and he just couldn't provide for them anymore.
But anyway- it was just a hard first day with him because for some reason, none of the mamas would listen to the other volunteers about him being moved down, since he was visibly unable to do most of the things everyone else in the room can easily do. So we'll see what a night's rest (or no rest) will do to the mama's decisions for him.
At lunchtime, we ate Mama Cook's food, which was pretty darn good(even though- in all honesty- I'm not exactly sure what half of it was, but hey it was hot and in my mind that means safe to eat!). She made us boiled squash, "beef stew" (which I definitely had an organ in one of my chunks of beef.... glorious), rice, and "greens". Bless her- she's such a sweet and giving woman.
Evening shift was with the toddlers, it was super fun and relaxed We just went into the backyard with about 25 of the kids and just played. I played some soccer, had some swinging time, and pushed around some of the boys in the fisher price cars. After the shift, a few of us had a meeting at Danyne's house (SO beautiful- dad, the house is above apartments so it overlooks a beautiful part of the lake. no worries, my camera was on hand :D )and then headed back to the house for the night.
Well, we're all about to play some hardcore Bananagrams, so I have to say bye for now.
Talk to you tomorrow,
Linds
P.S. I updated a few pictures on here, but I probably won't add that many more during the duration of the trip because my camera requires a cable to upload MINE, so these are just a few from Ash's camera. Enjoy :)
