So, my flight from Denpasar changed a little, instead of going straight to my destination on the island of Flores, we detour through Sumba then onto Timor, both times, navigating landing between ploughs and cattle on somebodies field! It's all in the spirit of adventure, I familiarise myself with the capital Kupang. A small town to the west of the island. Maybe a handful of westerners a month, I certainly atttract the legendary Indonesian hospitality and am promptly inviting to eat with a group of students, the girl in the group has a great command of English she apparantly picked up from watching movies and TV! I am impressed and humbled by their genorosity. Leaving the night market food court I wander back towards my bed for the night, paid for, of course by the wonderful Merpati airlines! However, my attention is captured by baseline thumping from the only bar in town, Lavalon. I step inside, only intending to gather certain touristic information however, am absconded by the institution that is Edwin in Kupang. Offers of free internet initially draw me in, but later the eclectic mix of gin with a dash of honey inspires a fruitful friendship brewing in the languid air of the Timorese evening! By the way he watches me write so enjoy every word!
Tomorrow on to the heady pleasures of Kelimutu and the mystical three coloured crater lakes - with any luck! I'l write again when the opportunity presents itself!
Now some much needed free sleep courtesy of Merpati Air!
