New York, New York – our final destination. Arrive late afternoon on 4th and meet up with Martin & Violet in some cheapo midtown hotel (Peninsular). Nice rooftop garden bar though.
Proceed to local Irish Bar and do what I haven’t done for 5 months – drink too much, and Guinness at that! Arrange to meet M & V for breakfast following morning. No chance! Wake up following morning and remember what its like to have a stinking hangover! Anyway, finally meet up for a lovely meal in Greenwich Village.
On Saturday, Martin has managed to get us tickets for a New York Yankees game at the new stadium. Never been to a baseball match before so not sure what to expect. Only recollection is from seeing it on The Simpsons! It turns out to be fairly accurate! Beer Man and all! Great experience but The Yankees lost to Tampa Bay Rays.
Spend the next day on a hectic schedule of sightseeing and manage Central Park, Brunch on the West Side, Ground Zero, Battery Park, Staten Island, Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bars, Brooklyn Bridge Walk and finally a meal back in Midtown. Excellent day and shows why New York is a great destination.
As I write this, we are getting ready for the trip home. Soon be home after 145 days away, feels strange. Anyway, New York provided a good last stop – next stop Huddersfield!
