Ok, I had a hugely eventful London trip with Lydia for the past few days.
Pretty much I am the queen of London now. I feel that in 8 days I now know everything there is to know about the city, and am pretty much a savvy native. Ok, so maybe not, but it was still pretty cool.
To use a heather-ism, I loved our hostel with all of my hopes and dreams. It was called Palmer's Lodge, and it was at one point an aristocratic private home. I'll give you a moment to let that sink in. If you've ever seen Upstairs Downstairs, that was the kind of house I was staying in. AAAHH!!! LOVE!!!
To explain further, our hostel was everything I imagined England was like but knew no longer existed. Like, Jeeves and Wooster or an Oscar Wilde play. Love love love.
But what did we do? Awesome things. We went to Camden town and bought tribal jewelery, we went to free museum after free museum, and we saw "Waiting for Godot" starring Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart. For those of you who are unfamiliar with legendary English actors, that means Gandalf and Jean-Luc Picard. Again, I died a little.
Also, Lydia got me into this author, Iris Murdoch, a few months before coming to England. It was all part of an elaborate plot to go on a literary pub crawl. See, Murdoch writes with a lot of detail about London geography, so there are areas in the book where you can figure out exactly where the characters are, and go there yourself. Namely, we could do the exact same epic pub crawl that takes up an entire chapter of Murdoch's "Under the Net."
It was totally sweet, for further details, check out my facebook pictures.
What else did we do? Um, I saw a fox. We got Thai food from a vendor that was amazingly good even if I did cry a little from the spiciness. We figured out the London Tube system backwards and forwards, and saw a billion horses in a parade. A good time was had by all.
Lydia and I did plan to go to Edinburgh, but we realized today that another trip immediately after our last one and so soon before going home just sounds exhausting and not fun. So these last few days will be spent packing, figuring things out at keele, and maybe taking a day trip to see where they filmed Pride and Prejudice. So yes. Sorry Scotland, we were just too tired for you. I'll visit in the future, I promise.
