So I went out to Grande Riviere to see the leatherback turtles coming in to nest. during the night, with a permit you can go out on the beach with guides and watch these amazing creatures come ashore, dig a nest and lay eggs. This time of year is really good because a lot of the earlier nests are now hatching and the little hatchlings struggle to get to the sea before the dogs and vultures eat them. Of course then there are the fish waiting for them too! I didn't get any pictures at night, obviously and the rain kept coming, the noise was pretty high for sleeping and the winds quit blowing. Mt. Plasir hotel is wonderful, right on the beach, but no fans in the room and without the trade winds, I overheated and left about 2 am to drive back to Port of Spain. Mt. Plasir is owned by Piero, an Italian ex-pat that has been in Grande Riviere for 16 years now!
