Woke up around 11 and after a huge bowl (sorry I can't pour cereal correctly) of musli (wordpad does not allow me to put those two cute dots over my u's) I realized this was probably the best cereal I've ever had and I need to start buying it at home.
Realized around 12:30 that our babysitter had an appointment around 2 so we would be going somewhere when he got back. Right then I decided that I didn't really want to be awake anymore and wanted to take a nap for the remainder of the time. Okay, I more or less passed out for 4 hours. Around 4:30 (Ruben had gone and come back from his appt.) I woke up thinking I'd slept about an hour. I slightly embarrassing look at the clock let me know I was being a little lazy today. Waved goodbye to Herhard who was NOT being lazy and had packed up the biggest boots I've ever seen to meet his friends to go hiking in the Alps. Well, okay. Bye Gerhard!
Had Ruben take us shopping. Again. But this time to find some particular Birkenstock's Ali's aunt wanted. I unfortunately found some expensive shoes that I had to buy pretty much the moment I saw them. Yes, Eric, they're "Greek" sandals. No, Eric, you won't like them. The Gladiator style strappy sandals are popular here, but they're not as obviously strappy as they are at home. I bought a leather pair for blank euro. They're pretty amazing.
Met up with Anne and went to the top of Stuttgart. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the best way to describe it. Got on a climbing above-ground tram that took us up to this park high up above Stuttgart then climbed a very windy metal spiral staircase to the top and had a gorgeous view of Stuttgart and the hills around it. Took some great hair in the wind pictures and then climbed down to chill at a cafe. After some silly pictures involving benches and horses we headed back to the central station for some good coffee. Ended up settling for Starbucks (really Anne, we didn't mind) and sat upstairs with a few vanilla lattes and a slice of New York cheesecake (yes, yes, American, we know).
Goofed around for a little while and after some more silly pictures we went home for another delicious home-cooked meal from Anne's Kitchen. I made my own cola-weissen, which makes me the best bartender around, and Ruben got me the correct large glass to make it really authentic. Anne's potatoes were delicious. Ironically, at home, Dad calls the dish German potatoes but I'm sure from now on they'll be referred to as Anne's potatoes.
Anne graciously found and wrote down every train we needed to get on for our trip to Venice (thanks, mom) and as we attempted to buy a flight to Paris from Italy (no thank you 12 hour train ride) we realized in the morning the acceptance letter did not show up on my email and we were denied our flight (man, this is like applying to Yale).
Right now we have the mindset we will be sitting on a train for 12 hours (our bad for wanting to stay so long in Cinque Terre) and then a 10 hour flight back home. Oh the troubles of traveling in Europe (very awful).
Packed up everything into our backpacks (I knew there was floorspace somewhere) and ended up going to bed around 3:30am. Our bad.
