A couple of weekends ago, I flew to Brisbane, bought a motorbike and rode it back. I didn't take a camera worse luck, so I don't have any pictures of the the visit with my brother Stephen and his family, the awesome meditative grasslands of the New England Tablelands or any of the historic towns up there. My favourite was Glen Innes. I'll try to find time to write more about that trip later, but for now, here are some photos of my new bike. It's a 2005 model Honda Hornet CB900. Good for trips.
I'm not really enough of a motorhead to write a good motorbike review, but this is my third and definitely the best bike I've had. Before I bought it I rode a SV650 (handles like a log in a swimming pool), an ER500 (not big enough for doubling), a W650 (nice but overpriced), a Triumph bonneville (beautful to look at, but a bit dull to ride) before settling on this one. My god, it is like flying a jet. It handles very well, is extremely comfortable to sit on and easy to ride. Fuel efficiency is about what you'd expect with a 4 cylinder 900 - between 5.5 and 6.5L per 100km - which, with a 19L tank gives 300 to 350km per tank. My only criticism, and its not a big one, is the speedometer. The dial goes up to 260km/h and it's a bit hard to see, at a glance, if you are going 70 or 80km/h. That 10km/h is of particular interest to radar cameras.
