Oh good heavens.
Yesterday, starting at 9:30 in the morning, I was volunteering for the Kube charity broadcast.
See, for 24 hours two djs (Georgie and Nick)stay on air and try to make money for charity (Comic relief, Invisible Children, and Rag Week as the case may be). To keep things interesting for listeners various events take place, such as bobbing for apples, a pizza eating competition, a party at one of the campus pubs The Pig and Rat, and other fun things. For one, a boy ate a flapjack covered in Wasabi. Another, Paul, got a tattoo on air.
I was in charge of the pizza eating competition. This meant that I kept the tables organized, was in charge of money, and hassled people into entering a pizza eating competition. Turns out I was born for the job. Begging for money is one thing. Begging for money in England with an American accent, is entirely another. People would stop, possibly wondering why this random American was shouting at them, then, since they had already stopped, they would feel obliged to donate. It was glorious.
I stood at a table, organizing pizza eating competition after pizza eating competition from noon until 7:30 in the evening. Then, I went to Pig and Rat, where I organized yet another pizza eating competition. SO MUCH PIZZA.
Plus, "The Fabulous Baker Boys" donated approximately 200 boxes of muffins. I wish I were joking. We had to pawn off 1600 muffins to an unwitting public. It was insane. Fortunately it was a 24 hour broadcast, so we were willing to stop people going home from an evening at the pub at like 2am and sell them muffins. We made over 100 pounds in the hours of 2 until 4.
Total money made? 1300 pounds. NOT BAD AT ALL!!! I made approximately 200 pounds from the pizza table alone, so I don't feel shabby at all about that.
Plus, I met some really amazing people. Turns out Kube DJs are amazing, and we should do more together. Of course, I figure this out a little over a week before going home. Blah.
Anyway, I'm sunburned, exhausted, and ready for a nap. GO KUBE!! WOO!
OH WAIT THOUGH!
My last radio show is today, since I did such a great job helping I get one last show. TODAY! FROM 4-6 if you're in the UK or 11-1 if you're in the US
LISTEN TO APPLE PIE SUBURBIA! THE BEST SHOW EVER!!
I promise you awesomeness. See yas.
