Travelling from Whistler up the Thompson Valley to Jasper is a 9-hour plus drive but there is a lot to see on the way. Unfortunately for us, the weather takes a turn for the worse and we encounter heavy rain for much of the journey – experiencing just how quickly the weather can change. We break off for the night in Valemount.
Arrive in Jasper on 27th for 3 nights. Check in, have a wander and find the ‘Jasper Brewing Co.’, a fine pub on the main street that brews its own beer. Trying a pint of their Liftliner Ale, for the first time on this journey I am reminded of (good) English Real Ale and realise that perhaps we do have something in England worth being proud of? Spend the next 2 nights in there anyway! Also did a passable Irish Stew! (Soon back to 2nd Wednesday Club)!
Anyway, it’s not about drinking (is it?). So what about the sights and the area itself. Well, we would have to say some of the most breathtaking scenery we have encountered so far (have we said that before?). Jasper is set in a stunning location; it is surrounded by a dramatic moutainscape. The pictures hopefully show the beauty of the area.
Oh – and a great encounter with a bear – see picture.
