We are sitting in the airport waiting for the flight to BKK, you have to love free wifi. We decided to spend the day at the National Palace Museum. The idea was a day of air conditioned fun while we waited to leave for our flight, of course the weather was beautiful today. Cool and comfortable, but that was still fine with me. The National Palace Museum was actually worth a visit, and it must have been a free day, because there was no one to take our money and no one stopped us when we went in. There was some gorgeous artwork, and pottery...lots and lots of pottery. (yeah, we skipped most of that, not really into pottery. We went back to the Shilin station area as this is where the bus we took to the museum met the MRT(a stop past the market,so don't worry I will not bore you with tales of the mighty tasty noodle) ate some sushi (Taiwan is close to Japan and there was some occupation...see teas shop, hotsprings and so not worth it temple pics) went back to this crazy adorable cat themed shop,(there was singing cat music) walked around a bit and had tea. Then off to the airport.
Some thoughts as we leave Taipei. The soot from all those scooters has made Taipei a grey city. It is also marked with tower blocks marred by bars and grated windows and balconies, which is a little ugly at first, but the city has hidden charm if you keep your eyes pealed. It is amazing how many people you can fit on a scooter. Street food rocks Children on the MRT find us fascinating. The 80s is back in a MAJOR way. We are talking straight out of Molly Ringwald's closet in Pretty in Pink, several Franky Says Relax Shirts, and at lest one guy in a Air Supply shirt, drop waist tops with leggings, black eye glass frames with no lenses...I could go on. The only thing missing is the big hair.
