We have now been in Cambodia for four days and spent two days with our project group. We met them yesterday for orientation, which basically involved being told not to do any of the things we had done over the two previous days! Today we started on the project, thrown in at the deep end with a full day of teaching. We are working at a place called CCOLT (Cambodian Children's Orphanage for Living and Training) where 27 children live and have English lessons in the mornings. Jess is teaching four boys in the class 'under the tree'and Zoe has the advanced class (who keep asking grammar questions!). After a two hour midday break, we then take a class for advanced university students together in the afternoons. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we will also have a class each of local children from 5.30 to 7.30 in the evening and on other days we are expected to be around till around 5 in case the staff want to learn more English. We also have to spend evening planning lessons for the next day and preparing the resources for them. So, it's pretty exhausting physically as well as emotionally.
We will let you know how it is going when we have found our feet and are feeling like actual teachers, but till then please wish us luck!! xxxx
