The month of April proved to be interesting time- I spent many weeks looking for permanent work and in the mean time working random temp jobs. It's been great to live near the YWAM base and not be an active staff. I've been able to sit in on some lectures, hangout with the Bible school students and meet some speakers. In fact, I got to be 'tour guide' around Oxford for a famous speaker. Don Richardson is a famous missionary and author of a book "peace child.' I had no idea who he was, but I LOVED meeting him and getting to know him and his wife. Plus, his wife is from Oregon. So we chatted about Oregon the whole. It was awesome and good for my homesickness.
Then, the Bible school (BCC) students went to Castle Hill- a beautiful place in Arthur's Pass. We climbed around the rocks, jumped off rocks and had an AWESOME time in the sunshine and snow capped mountains. The most recent exciting news is my JOB!! After applying to numerous positions and never hearing anything back- I had an interview for a caregiver position at an old folks home. and I got it!! It starts off part-time with the option of more hours if I want them. I'm taking care of residents which means dressing, showering, feeding and other such things. I have no previous experience but I'm going through training this week and I find that it's already very similar to working with children. Praise God for the job! And it's in Oxford. So, I can continue to live with the amazing Kiwi family here in town.
I had a cool experience here in Christchurch. There is a home in CHCH called Rodem House. It's run by missionaries and set up as a place for foreigners to practice English. It's also a Christian program so they host a dinner every Tuesday for people to come over followed by worship and a brief message afterward. I have heard about this place for awhile and finally went last Tuesday. It was AWESOME!!! I talked with a guy from South Korea who is not a Christian but he comes to the house to practice English and he likes the people. We talked about God, and his Catholic grandma and about Christianity. It was really encouraging. The Rodem House is a great ministry and I hope to go there again soon.
God is doing some cool things in my life. I'm excited to see where He takes me. Thank you for staying updated on my life.
Here are things that you can pray for me about: 1) God is providing for me through this new job. I need to use this money wisely to pay off some debts back home, take care of my room/board here in NZ and pay for the next backpackers school that I am staffing. Please pray for continued financial provision.
2)I want to use this time here in NZ for God. I am not sure what this looks like right now- but I know that I have been given this time to dig deeper into prayer and the Word. I want to grow closer to Jesus and find rest during this time. Please pray that I continue serving God during this time.
3) I am excited to staff another backpacker school in October. However, I find that I am living toward that moment and thinking about when it will all begin. I realize the importance of living in the NOW. I pray that God shows me each day how I can bless others, hear His voice and live for Him TODAY.
Thank you for joining me on this journey -nicki
