Ariving in Fiji

2009-04-16, Malolo Island, Fiji

Arrival on Malolo Island in Fiji is by ferry or seaplane from the main International Airport. As we are too late to catch the last ferry at 4pm, we have arranged to go by seaplane. It can just about manage the two of us and our luggage – Roger has to sit in the co-pilots seat, Caroline is petrified. What a great experience it turns out to be – there are over 300 islands in the Fiji group and we fly over quite a few on our way to Malolo, part of the Mamanuca chain of islands. As we approach Malolo, we can see the coral reefs clearly from the seaplane, flying at only about 100 feet and look forward to snorkelling amongst it. Caroline thought it was a fantastic experience and would like another go. A group of staff singing their welcome song and presenting us with a shell necklace each welcomes us. It’s hot and humid.
