Humid, Sunny, Sweet

What a change, from Snow to Sand in one easy week. It’s so hot here, and humid. Our fragile Canada whitened bodies aren’t taking it well. We landed here at 5:30 in the morning, 5 hours later we were sun burnt. Not all over, but a good portion of over.

Haven’t really done much here yet. Yesterday we arrived, came back to Shannon’s place, had a big breakfast with our old NZ favourites, Watties Spaghetti!! It was strange on the plane back from LA. I don’t know if you know this but the cans in America are different. They’re still 355ml but the tops are smaller; they’re the size of the 250ml V cans. Anyway, we got used to that after drinking many beers from these cans for 3 months. When the stewardess on the Air NZ flight brought us a can of Coke it was so weird and funny looking. I never really expected to acclimatize to can shape.

Another thing on the flight that was cool was seeing a special on Lord of the Rings at the start of the flight. It wasn’t so much the Lord of the Rings part of this that was cool, it was at the end when they showed scenes of NZ and all the actors were going on about how amazing the country was. It almost brought a tear to my eye. I don’t know why we left. I haven’t been so homesick the whole trip.

The house we’re in (Shannon’s mum Dianne’s house) is amazing. Views of coconut palms and far off reefs. Me and Jonny both have our own room (For the first time in 3 months). Jack (4 next week) and Taine (2 ½) are cool. They were quite shell shocked when they first came upstairs and we were there. They were both quiet and unsure but they soon dropped that act and started acting their ages. Running, dancing, wanting to play “speed cards”, the usual.

We went snorkelling this afternoon. It was pretty amazing but the water was a bit murky. Across the road from where we’re staying there’s a big lagoon. Normally it’s really calm and clear I think but today it was a bit choppy so the water was churned up. The fish were still cool though, and the water definitely wasn’t. So warm.

Haven’t had any fish yet, but have had a lot of fruit, the fruit is good here. Went shopping today, bought the obligatory pair of Jandals and floral board shorts. Jonny bought the shirt aswell but I think I’ll leave that till I find the right one, can’t rush a thing like that.

Going to town tonight, Friday night’s the big night because on Saturdays they have to close at midnight because it becomes Sunday, no alcohol sales on Sundays. Should be good, and hopefully not too expensive.
