this is the second cruise we've taken that did a partial transit of the canal. Up to Gatun Lake, unload the excursion tourists and then back down to Cristobal. It's always amazing to me how the locks work. What an engineering marvel!
Most people don't realize the canal is really north to south! In the morning, ships go from the Caribbean to the Pacific, after noon traffic is the opposite. Then they start again.
Another canal is being built to accomodate the super tankers and larger cruise ships!
