Vilnius is all good; elegant buildings in the very centre, surrounded by lots of equally lovely buildings in various crumblesome stages of decay. There's also a nice little arty area that pretends it's independant but sort of isn't really. It's all about pretend, apparently. I found another one of those free walking tours where a local shows you the other side of the city, so I got to see places I wouldn't have ventured into otherwise.
Anyway, I've wimped out and decided to head west: The Fear has returned when it comes to the combination of the cyrillic alphabet, confusing rail networks and the prospect of angry ticket clerks who can't/won't help now seems like too much of a mission since I'm going it alone, so have decided to do a separate trip to Kiev later, and another to Minsk later in the year.
So tomorrow I'm off to Warsaw for a night, then changing at Krakow in order to get to Vienna for a couple of days, and finally spending 2/3 days in Berlin. I've booked a flight home for next Wednesday, so that's put my mind at ease in terms of flight-booking hassle.
It's all still very exciting though, and shall stay fun now that I'm going to cities that won't scare the bejesus out of me.
Gotta make some Russian/Ukrainian friends soon... : )
