Towns near Huancayo specialize in different things, such as gourd carving, or weaving. We visited some on their market days. It was also Semana Santa so there was a hike to a big cross at the top of a hill near Huancayo. People were hiking up to a festival on this hill. For us it was quite a hike because Huancayo is so high, in altitude, that it is hard to breathe because the air is thin.
