Overnight stay on 'The Rock'

2009-04-07, Paihia, New Zealand

Today we drove up to the Bay of Islands, right up at the top of North Island. We boarded a really cool floating hotel called The Rock, a converted car ferry. It had two floors, one of rooms and the other with a bar, a pool table and a space out the back for hunting'n'fishing. We cruised around some of the islands that make up the Bay of Islands, stopping to snorkel, kayak, swim and fish. I caught two mackerel - the first fish i have ever caught! Plus i got a free beer because it was the first catch of the evening. But it was kinda hard to play pool while the boat was moving - the balls just rolled around by themselves - so we had to wait until we were moored up for the night.

The next morning, after a god nights sleep, we went ashore at Robinson Island, where Captain Cook and his crew became the first Europeans ever to set foot in New Zealand! It was a nice day and there were some great views.
