Had to get a bus from Tartu to Parnu in order to get to Riga, which meant a six hour wait in a little resort town where normally you'd only want to spend an hour walking to the beach and back. It was either that or get a 6am bus direct to Riga... so can't complain really.
Anyway, Latvia appears to have stolen all of the 'green' from Estonia, as all of a sudden there was grass & moss instead of dusty earth & waterlogged trees. We were also treated to a sneaky glimse of the sea at one point, which is always exciting.
Riga is a lot bigger than Tallinn, and the arcitecture is completely different. There's also a lot more going on in terms of hustle, bustle and general tourist action.
On a cafe related note, this morning I was given semolina masquerading as oatmeal, and a chai latte (oh yes) that looked suspiciously like a strawberry milkshake with some cinnamon on top... so I've essentally eaten a lot of sugar for breakfast : ) That said, last night I found an amazing Japanese place. Should probably sample something Latvian at some point...
Today is all about wandering around in what appears to be quite a warm day, then tomorrow I'm going to take a train/bus to Ventspils, on the coast.
