Hot Water Beach

2009-04-09, Whitianga, New Zealand

Special entry for this bizzare natural feature. Read about it and decided to take a look. Geothermal activity heats underground springs which then bubble to the surface within a few square yards on this particular beach.

As our pictures show, people flock to the beach armed with spades and go about digging holes which fill with hot water. They then proceed to lie in it for as long as the tide will allow!

Bizzare but extraordinary!

Next entry: Bay of Plenty
