We look forward to our stay in Rotorua as we decide it’s time we stopped somewhere for more than 2 days! So 3 nights it is then!
Our immediate introduction to Rotorua (and everyone else’s we imagine) is the pungent smell of Hydrogen Sulphide everywhere you go. You have to get used to it or move on – no choice. This isn’t difficult to do however as the sights are truly wondrous – the sight of steam belching from fissures in the rock and ground is, for us, an amazing sight. Not just in controlled areas either, peoples gardens, the roadside, fields…
There are literally dozens of organised trips/visits to choose from to see some of the more spectacular sights and you have to do some of these. We spend a day on quite a few including the obligatory Maori village complete with ‘tribal dance’ and so forth. Leaves us a bit cynical actually!
So a great time in Rotorua, has to be experienced and now over to the East Coast and the Bay of Plenty.
