We arrive in Wellington for a night and decide that was a good choice. Not much to keep us there really, big city with a few decent sites.
So onwards to our first main stop – Lake Taupo, the largest in NZ. We arrive in the middle of some serious national cycle race AND an annual charity walk. So it’s a bit busier than most of the places we’ve visited so far. Still we manage to get a good deal on a motel for a night and join the crowds searching for a place to eat.
Travelling north from Lake Taupo the following day, sees the start of the main geothermal area – belching steam and the lovely smell of Hydrogen Sulphide! Rotorua here we come.
