So, after the excitement of Queenstown, it’s on to the Franz Joseph Glacier via the Fox Glacier and a delightful place called Wanaka (the razor sharp wit in me had some fun with that name (sic))!!

We only spend one night in the Glacier area, do a short hike to the face of Franz Joseph Glacier – very impressive and awe inspiring when you realise the geological significance of these vast sheets of ice still advancing.

However, to get a real feel for the wonders of this area, it would take some serious ice climbing – decide we could do that with ease but unfortunately haven’t enough time! Satisfy ourselves we have enough time for the local bars and embark upon some well-earned r & r! Following morning a not too early start up the west coast.
