The lady at the ticket office could speak English AND smiled - that never, ever happened in Poland. Good start eh.
Didn't see much of the old Soviet military stuff, but did see a lot of lovely housing blocks (so many colours...). Really strange town, as it appears to be 95% housing. There was also a post office, a pharmacy and a school. But no central point that I could find. By the time I got there it was really sunny, so everyone looked happy, kids on roller skates, grannies chatting on benches and the like.
I also made it to the lighthouse, which turned out to be a somewhat epic trek (I wouldn't have walked down such a long, unpromising looking road unless the nice ladies pointed in that direction after appraising my shoddy sketch of a lighthouse). Lots of broken buildings/houses to look at along the way, and then a red lighthouse at the edge of the country (sort of). And lots of sea.
Oh, and on the way back I saw a fire engine in a field... there were mini fires scattered all around. Not sure why or how.
Now that I've had my little day trip I reckon tomorrow I'll check out the old town properly.
