"I want to get in a gang fight with lemon scented hands"

2009-04-06, Athens, Greece

That quote came from Lydia, after squeezing a lemon on her souvlaki.

I just ate a gyro out on the balcony of my hostel. It was fairly perfect. I'm in Athens for one more full day, and we're going to the beach right by where the battle of Marathon happened. We were going to go to the beach today but it rained, so we decided to see an M.C. Escher exhibit, but it was closed. We ended up wandering around the areas we had not yet wandered, going to Keramikos, and finding the tomb of Thucydides and Mikon. (!!!) Ok, so it's not like we were the first people to ever find it, but it was still cool.

Last night was one of the most bizarre/awesome experiences of my life. Ally Lydia and I were walking back to our hostel a bit later than expected, after a group from Heather and Kristin's hostel invited us out to sit on the hill of Areopogus at at night and look at the Parthenon and the city and everything all lit up. It was gorgeous. But we had to walk back to our hostel at night, which isn't so bad, but a bit nerve-racking.

So we're walking home and there's NOBODY OUT. No one, cars yes, but nobody on the streets. It was kind of eerie. We were cold and kind of nervous, and then all of a sudden one of the big stray dogs that wander all over Athens just trotted up next to us. It looked happy, and it didn't bother us, it just started walking with us. It was joined by another dog, and another. Soon, Lydia, Ally and I were being escorted by FIVE HUGE DOGS. They weren't angry, or even hungry, they were just chillin'. Some drama happened when this weird sheepdog started to bark at us, but the first dog just walked up to it, they ran around, and then the sheepdog joined the posse!

We ran into like, three other people the entire time we were out, and the dogs wouldn't let them get anywhere near us. (not like they were trying, but still, it was kind of neat). Lydia decided the dogs were herding us (they did look like the sheepdog type) and they just wanted to make sure we got inside safely. It was so bizarre, but awesome.

Also, I just discovered my heart shaped donut I bought from a street vendor is filled with Nutella. EPIC WIN.

That's about all I've got to say.

Next entry: You may get ROME-ing charges! Oh god...
