Melbourne

They just love there free transport here more free trams, but only the Burgundy ones, and they run on a circle line, so if its not where you want to go, its either walk or pay up!

We went up the Skydeck 88, which holds the highest viewing platform in the Southern Hemisphere, and walked round the viewing area, which included going out into the outside viewing area, which was neither as cold or as windy as I would have expected, specially as there was a thunderstorm on its way. Gareth and Eleanor went out onto the Edge, which is a moving platform, which extends 3 meters out from the building and has a glass bottom so you can see directly beneath you. Me, I stayed on the outside viewing platform – well someone had to take photos to prove they had been out there!

Phillip Island, where apart from holding the Moto GP and World Superbikes, is where you can witness the Little Penguins coming ashore after being at sea, they are really quite comical and certainly very cute, they are only about 13” tall and gather in groups before making a mad dash across the sand to the sand dunes where their burrows are; also, hopping around the island are Wallabies, if only they would stay still long enough to take a photo.

Sad Muppet Day – as a treat for Gareth we did the Neighbours tour, well you cant go all the way to Melbourne and not do the cheesiest tour in town now can you. We saw the school they use for Erinsborough High, Lassiters and of course Chariles Bar and Harolds General Store. Then of course the obligatory trip to Ramsey Street itself to see the houses as they appear on TV. The tour was rounded off with a photo opportunity with a cast member – who did we meet Janelle Timmins and very nice she was too.

Next entry: The hot (or not so hot) Red Centre
