Collected some of my first designs for 2009

I picked up a bunch of finished rings from Wayan Doble a new silversmith I am working with this year. The rings all turned out really nice. I experimented with some of the designs from last year and created an open ring that shows the complex architecture. I like the way it turned out… it is more technical looking and certainly unique. He helped me to create four of my 9 different ring designs for this year. Four of them mix copper with silver. All of the other designs show the continual refinement that comes with my experience over the years. Wayan is still having a lot of difficulty doing my copper rings. He is new to copper and I always have to train them on what is important when it comes to working with copper. I have to get them to experiment with different techniques. They teach me things as well; for example, I thought you could reticulate the copper something I do all the time it gives a wonderful texture like the bark of a tree. I then wanted them to hook the bezels to the copper after it was texturized. He tried several different times but the silver soldier ran under the bezel and made a messy blotch of silver. I wanted them to melt grainular copper to the top but again the copper is slow to melt and the silver melts faster so the bezels come apart. We are experimenting with soldier made with brass, copper and silver mixture. In any case I think the new copper rings will turn out nice I am just trying to make them match my vision and sometimes this is impossible.
