Adventure Capital (for some)

2009-03-28, Queenstown, New Zealand

Queenstown is dubbed the ‘Adventure Capital of the World’ – so we arrive with thoughts of White Water Rafting, Bungy Jumping, Paragliding, etc and leave having been Horse Riding and on Winery visits!

Despite our own limitations, Queenstown turns out to be a real gem. Set on Lake Wakitipu – over 50 miles long – and although a real tourist trap, it is in an idyllic setting with the Lake and the surrounding mountains (The Remarkables). Good restaurants help us to enjoy it even more!

We end up deciding that Queenstown is a place in which we can have some chill out time. Hence, we book ourselves an afternoon of gentle Horse Riding (first timers unless, for those that have lengthy memories, Rog getting decapitated in Majorca in 1975). Excellent it turns out to be too. We decide we are born equestrians and promise we will do it again.

One morning is spent at the top of Bob’s Peak, reached by Gondola, and providing an almost aerial view of the city. Along with the Bungy Jumping platform, which I seriously consider and decide my insurance probably doesn’t cover me, and many other attractions provide a good mornings distraction. One or two photo hopefully prove the point.

As we write this, we are in the last few hours of our time in Queenstown and decide it’s a great place whatever your particular thing is.
