So Mike invited me along to have lunch with the father of a former co-worker of Mikes from Vancouver. Started out as a great day, we walked the Savannah, went down to the waterfront to have breakfast at the Breakfast Shed, stopped at a really great shop along Tragarete, African Trophy's, cleaned up and headed out to Valpark mall to meet up for lunch at a Chinese restaurant. The food was really great. Afterwards, we went to an Indian store named, the Little Store, so I could grab some curries and hot sauces. After that, we stopped at a festival going on that is called Phagwa here, but is really called Holi in India. Holi (also called Holaka or Phagwa) is an annual festival celebrated on the day after the full moon in the Hindu month of Phalguna (early March). It celebrates spring, commemorates various events in Hindu mythology and is time of disregarding social norms and indulging in general merrymaking. Holi is probably the least religious of Hindu holidays. During Holi, Hindus attend a public bonfire, spray friends and family with colored powders and water, and generally go a bit wild in the streets. What a blast. So afterwards, we headed to Ishri's house and were admiring the beautiful home he has and checking out his 5 coconut trees, 2 mangos, and a great banana tree in his backyard when I heard a TON of macaws raising holy heck. I asked if they were wild and found that one of his neighbors has about 30 of them! Off we went to visit the neighbor. Enjoy the pics
