Paradise within reach

2009-03-03, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

If you haven't been to Puerto Vallarta on the west coast of Mexico, the Mexican Riveria, you should remedy that situation. It is closer than Hawaii and less expensive. The entire region is geared to make your visit a laid-back, pleasant and safe experience. But the region is definitely Mexican, unlike the steel and glass of Cancun. If you enjoy going to Mexico and staying in places that could be Miami or San Diego, then PV probably won't be your first choice.

Dusty cobblestone streets, marvelous food, honest hospitality all await you. Stay in Zona Romantica (old town) for the best of PV and never, never go all inclusive! There are so many wonderful restaurants in PV that beg to be discovered, it would be silly and awful to eat only at your hotel/condo/time-share. Don't know where to go? Simply get in a cab and ask the driver to take you to a good restaurant. From there on you'll know what to do!

Should I buy fresh squeezed orange juice in a bag from a stand on the street? Yes of course! You won't find anything like it in any store anywhere! Pick it up after visiting a local panaderia (bakery) and purchasing fresh bolellos or pan dulce for your breakfast. Then set the table on your deck and enjoy watching PV wake up as you munch these local delicasies!

I'm a real vactioner and nobody paid me to write this even though I am using language typical of travel agencies. Just ignore it and try it for yourself.
